Learn Chinese through YouTube
YouTube is a great tool to practice Chinese. In there you'll encounter lots and lots of content. If you are specifically searching for Chinese YouTube channels, this platform will really help you as it is full of Taiwanese channels.
Which channel is right for you?
So, to choose a channel, there are two main routs you can take. The first one is to search for content that is aimed at Chinese learners, this type of content is a lot easier to understand. The second rout is to select a channel that is for natives speaker, in those the vocabulary is more complex and they speak a lot faster.
Whichever rout you choose, the most important thing is to focus on who is the video aimed for?. For example, a video that was created for children will be much easier to understand than one that focuses on a specific niche.
Personally, I recommend family vlogs, as the vocabulary is a lot easier, but still useful. Even though this type of channels are aimed for native speakers, the vocabulary is still basic, because most of the time the parents are speaking to their children.
Recommendations:
Willemsen in Taiwan: In this channel we follow a family while they experience life in Taiwan, as well as in the Netherlands. What is great about this channel is that most of their videos have Chinese subtitles as well as English translations. Also, don't be discouraged about the fact that they are foreigners, because their Chinese skill are quite impressive.
莎白 Elizabeth: In this channel we follow Elizabeth in her life in Taiwan. She is a foreigner that moved to Taiwan when she was really young, so her Chinese is actually quite good, she is even able to speak some Taiwanese dialects. Her videos also contain English and Chinese subtitles, which really help you understand the content.
Sherri Li : In this channel we follow Sherri while she lives in Shanghai, most of her vlogs are about her experience studying in Shanghai Jiao Tong. She does not talk a lot, but it is a great channel to have in the background while you do other things. Also, her videos have Chinese subtitles, which makes it a lot easier to understand what she is saying.
狄達 TikTok: In this channel we follow the life of 狄達 while she lives in Hong King. Her vlogs are bit harder to understand, but they are really entertaining due to her always being really enthusiastic and fun. I mostly recommend this channel for passive immersion.
