Podcasts to improve your Chinese

Podcast Recommendation Improving your listening Listening is a skill that is mainly acquired by practice and exposure to a language, this can be done in many ways like: Music, Shows, AudioBooks, etc. in your target language, but the one I most enjoy are: podcasts. Podcasts are a great way to acquire new vocabulary and train your ear, another great thing about them is that they are free. Why I prefer podcasts The reason I think podcast are so beneficial, is because you can hear real people talking, which is quite helpful, because you can train your ear to be able to understand the speed in which native speaker's talk, and you can also get used to different speech mannerism.  The reason I don't prefer other methods, in songs people don't tend to focus on pronunciations, so it can be a bit harder to understand them. In shows and movies the actors tend to speak a bit slower and the pronunciation is a bit different, because the actor is trying to deliver a certain emotion while...

Watch cartoons to improve your Chinese

Cartoons in Chinese  There are a lot of different methods to improve your reading and listening, and one of them is through Cartoons. Cartoons tend to use a simpler vocabulary, because for most of them their target audience are kids.  This method can help anyone, at whichever level you are, the only thing that changes is the type of cartoons that will benefit you. Where to find them You can watch them in platforms like: WeTV or IQIYI, but most of the cartoons in those platforms are Anime, which is a bit harder than normal cartoons, because their target audience is much older. If you are a beginner or intermediate learner (like me) I recommend you to watch children's cartoons, the main place where you can find them is on YouTube. Cartoons on YouTube for beginner level  Peppa Pig: This show is one of the most recommended in the Chinese learning community. The dialogues tend to be quite simple, because the plot is based in a child's life. There are two YouTube channels I rec...

Accidentally in love  Synopsis Accidentally in love or also known as     惹上冷殿下  i s a show that was released in 2018 by Mango TV. It is made of 30 episodes and each episode is around 30 minutes, you can currently watch it in Netflix. This show is mainly based around a girl: 陳青情, this girl has a big secret which is revealed to the audience in the first episode. 陳青情 moved to Yuncheng to attend a prestigious University, she seems like an ordinary girl, but in reality she is so much more and has quite a great personality. In her University she meets her classmate  司徒枫,  司徒枫 is a rich idol who seems to have quite temper, but still he is loved by most people.  During the show we follow their story, throughout friendship, love, heartbreak, grief and so much more.  Review: Over the years I have watched this show more than 5 times, some in English and others completely in Chinese. This show is quite lighthearted and even thought it's based in a Unive...

Understanding a Native's Handwriting

Chinese Native's Speakers Handwriting Everyone's handwriting is different, even in your first language you probably have encountered someone how wrote in such a strange way that you simply were not able to understand it. When it comes to Chinese writing, things are a bit more complicated, because we need to remember characters, which is not an easy task. Some people also know both traditional and simplified characters, which is also hard, but to all of that there's one more factor to add which is: deciphering someone's handwriting and in my experience this  can be quite tricky. Why is it so hard to understand a Native's Handwriting ?  The answer is quite simple, as we all know Chinese characters are complex. The main reason why learners are not able to understand someone's handwriting are strokes, a lot of learners (including me) don't know them all, so when a Native speak who knows all the strokes for most characters write their characters usually look dif...
